Edna Alejandra Longoria is a Mexican-American composer born in Mcallen, Texas and raised in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, México. Edna obtained a Masters Degree in Music Composition at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University in Long Beach, and a Bachelor Degree in Music Composition from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has had the privilege of studying composition with Dr. Alan Shockley, Dr. Carolyn Bremer, Dr. Adriana Verdie, Perry LaMarca, James Syler, Dr. James Balentine, and Dr. David Heuser. Edna’s music participated in a workshop with the highly acclaimed Kronos Quartet, and has been premiered by various ensembles and musicians such as Verdant Vibes ensemble, North/South Consonance ensemble, Chatter ensemble, Sonic Apricity, Elixir Piano Trio, Los Angeles Percussion Quartet, pianist Clare Longendyke, flutist Iwona Glinka, soprano Noel Archambeault among others.

Edna’s music has been performed at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, SCI National Conference, Music by Women Festival, SCI Region VI Conferences, LunArt Festival and the Alba Composition Festival. Edna’s piece “Danzas cautivas” won the 2019 call for scores at the LunArt Festival. In addition, Miss. Longoria has recently won the 2020 San Antonio NALAC Grant Award, as well as the 2019 San Antonio Performing Arts Grant Award. Edna’s music has been premiered in the US, Mexico, and Europe.

Edna enjoys incorporating her Latin roots into her music and mixing it with contemporary techniques.

Los ritmos para tres (Rhythms for Three) -selected to be part of PARMA Recordings 2019 Piano Trio Album, recorded by “Trio Casals.” The piece will be programmed for the fifth installment of Navona Records’ Moto series.

2018

Carving a Life won the “Indie Spirit Award” at the New Hope Film Festival 2018.


Edna’s musical score for Carving a Life was nominated for the “Mary Austin Award Excellence in Film Scoring” and the “Marshall Hawkins Award Best Musical Score Feature Film” at the IDYLLWILD 2018 International Festival of Cinema.

 

2017

”Carving a Life” (feature) was one of five films nominated for Best Dramatic Feature Burbank International Film Festival.


“Reconveyance” (short film) received the Best Western award at the Action On Film International Film Festival in Las Vegas.


“Carving a Life” (feature) was given the Award of Recognition presented by the IndieFest Film Awards.


“Carving A Life” (feature) will be available on Video on demand for streaming by Indie Right
Movies in October.


Demons has been released on Amazon.com for free (US only).


“Felices los dos” for string orchestra will be premiering on July 1st 2017 at Edgewood Theater of Performing Arts in San Antonio, Texas by faculty and students of the Chamber Orchestra of San Antonio Music Institute (CMI). In addition, “Danzas Cautivas” will also be performed by the faculty of CMI.


“Danzas Cautivas” for string quintet and piano will be premiering on June 29th 2017 at the Tobin’s Center’s Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater by the faculty of the Chamber Orchestra of San Antonio Music Institute (CMI).


Edna will be the Composer in Residency for the 2017 Chamber Orchestra of San Antonio Music Institute.


Iwona Glinka’s “One Minute” CD has won Silver Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Contemporary Classical at the Global Music Awards competition. Edna’s piece “El baile” is part of the CD.”


“El baile" is now available for purchase or streaming at iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Naxos Music Library, and others.


Edna will be scoring for the upcoming short film “Bloodhound Law”


Edna will be scoring for the upcoming feature film “Carving a Life”


Edna will be writing a Commission string orchestra piece for the faculty of the Chamber Orchestra of San Antonio Music Institute 2017 summer program.


“Chicana Song Project” commission: A collaboration with Soprano Dr. Noel Archambeault.


 

2016

Edna will be scoring for the upcoming short film “Sovereign Heart” by Snakebyte Productions.


“Demons” short film will be screened at the Oceanside International Film Festival August 10 th 2016.


“El baile” a one minute solo flute, will be featured in flutist Iwona Glinka upcoming flute solo CD. The CD presentation and performance are schedule for November 2016.
